ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.-- According to St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway, some lieutenants were demoted following an investigation that showed they were falsifying their time cards.

  • Anonymous tip leads to investigation of three lieutenants
  • Chief says they falsifyed time cards
  • One retired, other two demoted to officers

Lieutenants Dennis Bolender, Cleven Wyatts and Cynthia Davis were investigated after an anonymous tip was received in January.

Holloway said that after reviewing their time cards they found that the lieutenants were punching in when they were not at work.

According to Holloway, electronic and paper time cards as well as the laptop systems in the patrol cars and entry swipe cards showed they were clocking in and out from home.

Holloway said that money is not the issue and sometimes it was only a matter of minutes, but he explained that it is a big deal, especially for people who are supposed to be in charge.

"These are watch commanders, responsible for the men and women that work for them," said Holloway.

Bolender retired amid the investigation and Wyatts and Davis have been demoted to officers, according to the department.

The department said that the electronic data went back six months from August 2017 to January 2018 when the tip was received, and there is no way of knowing at this point if the problem went back any further.
