OLDSMAR, Fla. -- An Oldsmar man who investigators say was once a deputy was arrested and charged Sunday after being accused of sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl.

  • Christopher Stufft charged with sexual battery on 10-year-old
  • Stufft was dating victim's mother, detectives said
  • Investigators say Stufft was once a deputy in Maryland

Christopher Wayne Stufft, 49, is accused of inappropriately touching a young girl while she and her mother were at his home, located on Countryside Key Boulevard.

Pinellas County detectives said Stufft and the girl's mother were in a short-term dating relationship, and Stufft invited them over to his home to watch a movie.

According to a Sheriff's Office report, the girl had just fallen asleep on the couch next to her mother and Stufft when her mother went outside to smoke a cigarette. Detectives said that while the mother was outside, Stufft touched the 10-year-old girl inappropriately and took photographs.

Detectives said the victim discreetly told her mother what happened, and the two left Stufft's residence before calling deputies.

The incident occurred at about midnight Sunday. Detectives made contact with Stufft at about 1 p.m. at his home where he admitted to having the two over but denied the allegations.

But investigators determined that the incident did take place and Stufft was arrested a short time later. He is charged with one count of sexual battery on a child under 12 years old.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office in Maryland confirmed that Stufft was employed as a patrol officer from 2004 to 2009.
