GULFPORT, Fla. -- Several Fourth of July fireworks shows in the Bay area turned out to be a "bust" rather than a "boom," but Gulfport residents got the show they were hoping for, albeit one day later than originally scheduled.

Fireworks lit up the night sky in Gulfport Thursday in a story of "better late than never."

Both Gulfport and St. Petersburg contracted Creative Pyrotechnics of Orlando to put on their respective celebratory fireworks shows. While St. Pete declined to reschedule their show after it was canceled late Wednesday, Gulfport officials gave the green light to moving the festivities back one night.

"Two nights of Fourth of July -- you can't beat that," said one resident out for the show.

It turned out to be a good decision, as residents came out for the show despite ominous-looking skies, saying fireworks on the 5th were better than no fireworks at all.

"Last year we came they were super, super big, they were really, really fun, that's why we came out twice this year," said another spectator at the show. "Definitely worth it."

The show lasted 20 minutes, and in the end, attendees said they were happy with how everything was resolved.
