PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- If you were telling a friend what to do or see in Pasco County, what would you tell them? Pasco County is trying to figure out the same thing.

  • Pasco County rebranding its tourism
  • Hopes to highlight unique things to do
  • County spent half a million to help with rebranding

The county is now rebranding its tourism. It's hoping to highlight some of the unique things they can offer to visitors.

For instance, its unique waterfront, which offers things like fishing, boating, and the return of scalloping in July.

Captain Wendy Longman keeps busy with her boat rentals, but like many tourism businesses in Pasco County, she's always looking for more customers.

"I think a lot of Pasco businesses have trouble getting us as a destination," she said.

That is why Longman is excited to see Pasco looking to rebrand its tourism in hopes of getting more folks to visit the county.

"I think it's absolutely wonderful. I know the tourism partners, hotels, restaurants, they're all very excited about this," Longman explained.

However, the county recently surveyed visitor sna found there was one consistent issue.

"We found out we were lacking a little bit of brand identity and a little bit of brand image. We took the opportunity to move forward with a whole different rebranding strategy," Pasco County Tourism Director Adam Thomas said.

That's why the county just approved half a million in funding to fix that.

A Tallahassee based PR firm was hired to help with marketing. Pasco hopes to feature things like Sunwest Park, trails and sports facilities, and of course, water.

"It's a ripple effect with everybody. With more tourism, I can buy more boats, hire more people," Longman said.

One thing Pasco County is banking on is the return of scalloping season. Scalloping is being allowed for the first time in more than 30 years.
