ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- 4:40 p.m. update: The six traffic signals are now working, according to a release from the St. Petersburg Police Department.

City police say there are a number of traffic signals that aren't functioning because of a Duke Energy power outage.

Duke is working on the problem but it may take until 6 p.m.for all of them to be working properly.

Please use caution when approaching:

  • 34th Ave N. and 1St Street N.
  • 47th Ave N. and 1st Street N.
  • 34th Ave N. and 4th Street N.
  • 34th Ave N. and MLK Street N.
  • 38th Ave N. and Haines Road N.
  • 38th Ave N. and 16th Street N.

Police remind drivers to treat these malfunctioning intersections like a 4-way stop.

TECO is reminding residents to stay away from downed wires. Assume all wires are power lines and assume they are energized.

Always assume that a downed power line is energized, and move away to safety. While some energized wires spark and snap, others may not appear dangerous.
