HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County School District will discuss plans on a new high school opening in two years.

  • New Hillsborough County high school to open in 2020
  • Attendance boundaries for students may change
  • School district to hear input from parents

The school will be the first new high school to open in more than 10 years in Hillsborough County.

The new school, referred to as "TTT" right now, will offer relief to East Bay High School and Lennard High School.

The attendance boundaries of Lennard, East Bay, Newsome, and Durant high schools are proposed to be impacted to balance enrollment among the high schools.

"Some students have not even started high school yet, but they should know that when they start high school it may be at a different high school, or it may be at a different school they anticipate or right now and they won't be finishing school there," school district member said.

Two meetings will be held for families to review and provide input to staff on the proposed boundary changes.

The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, July 18, and Thursday, July 26, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Shields Middle School in Ruskin.

The new school is set to open in August 2020.
