TAMPA, Fla. — Things have returned to normal at Tampa International Airport on Wednesday after a suspicious bag scare Tuesday night.

Airport officials say around 8:30 p.m., someone with a carry-on bag went through the security checkpoint at Airside C and the screening device detected something suspicious in the bag.

Security cleared the entire terminal and called for the Tampa bomb squad to come check the package.

Everyone in that terminal was brought out to wait and others who were on arriving planes were taken to other Airsides.

After several hours, airport officials say the Tampa Police Department determined that the bag was not a threat and operations returned to normal.

Passengers say they are relieved it did not end up being anything, but the entire thing was stressful.

"They just rushed us out, no questions asked. We didn't know what was going on, everybody was confused and we started following the crowd, that was it," said traveler Joseph Guilardo.
