LARGO, Fla.-- There was standing room only in the church where family and friends gathered to remember the life of one of their own.

RELATED stories:

Markeis McGlockton, 28, was shot and killed outside of the Circle A Food Store in Clearwater over a dispute over a handicapped parking spot.

Family and friends remember him as a loving father and protective partner.

Several speakers addressed the crowd to talk about McGlockton's life. Among them, McGlockton's brother-in-law Andre Danford, who spoke about his paternal instincts.

"I don't know who he was looking up to, but he became a better father to me most days than I was," Danford said. "All he wanted to do was be there for his kids."

Michael Drejka, the man who shot McGlockton, has not been charged.

The sheriff says the incident is protected under Florida's stand your ground law.
