BRADENTON, Fla.— A three-block stretch of downtown Bradenton remains closed after a water main break.

  • Water main break in downtown closes three blocks
  • Through-lanes expected to open late Monday
  • Nearly 40 cats had to be relocated from their shelter

Manatee Avenue West from 9th St W to 12th St W is shut down as crews continue to work to repair a large depression by 10th St W.

According to an update from Public Works Director Jim McLellan, crews are hoping to have westbound though-lanes re-paved and Manatee Avenue West open by the end of the day Monday.

The entire repair and repaving projected is estimated to be completed by the end of next week.

The depression opened up after soil under the road was washed away from rushing water following a water main break on Thursday.

The Manatee County administration building reopened for normal business on Monday, after it was shut down Friday afternoon due to issues with water access.

The nearly 40 cats housed at the Manatee County Animal Services downtown location were evacuated after officials chose to vacate the building Friday, they are now being housed at the agency's Palmetto location.
