TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Police Department has released two separate 911 calls that were made in connection to Je'Hyra Daniels, who died after her mother drowned her in the Hillsborough River.

The calls were made just moments before and after the death of 4-year-old Je'Hyra Daniels.

The first call came from an auto repair store about half a mile away from their apartment. The store's owner said that the child's mother Shakayla Denson allegedly stole a Nissan Altima.

The owner said that he saw Denson put the child into the back seat.

"She (had) one baby. She opened the back seat, and she dropped the girl and she jumped in the car, and she (started) the car and left," the auto shop owner said.

He said that Denson seemed to be in such a hurry that she almost ran him over.

"She hit me because I'm standing in front of the car saying 'What are you doing ma'am? This is not your car. What are you doing?' And then she hit me, and she (ran)," the auto shop owner recalled.

That's when police believe Denson headed to the river.

Two Spanish-speaking women were cleaning a house in the neighborhood when they witnessed Denson drowning her daughter. So distraught, they called the homeowner's son for help, and then he called 911.

"I have two people witness somebody throwing a child in the river, in the Hillsborough River, and they took off," he told dispatchers.

In Spanish, one of the witnesses pleaded for help.

"If I saw this kid, I'd jump in there and get them, but I can't find them in the river," she said.

When police arrived, they discovered Daniels unconscious in the water. Another officer found Denson walking nearby and took her into custody.

While sitting in the patrol car, officials said Denson "spontaneously stated that the 4-year-old was 'pure' and was with her grandmother."

Denson is being charged with first-degree murder. A motion filed by the State Attorney's Office is asking for her to be held while her case is pending.
