PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- The Pasco County school district is cracking down on lunch-time deliveries.

  • Policy change will ban students from having food delivered to school
  • Principal says it is security issue, among other concerns
  • School board expected to make it official Tuesday

Officials plan to change the district's school delivery policy to prevent students from ordering food.

Popular apps like Uber Eats have made it easy for students to purchase outside food, and at least one principal said it has become a problem.

"The delivery people would just drive up, park right in front of the front door and you would see either the bag of food or the pizza," said Mitchell High School Principal Jessica Schultz. "And they would walk up to our front desk and ask to deliver the food."

Schultz said ordering online has become second nature for many. The school district plans to add a new line to its food services policy that would prohibit deliveries.

"It's a safety issue, bottom line," she said. "It's just one more person on campus that shouldn't be there."

The school board is expected to finalize the policy against food deliveries at a Tuesday board meeting.
