ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tropical Storm Debby is in the northern Atlantic Ocean.

It is, and will be, no threat to land.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts. Little change is strength is forecast today, with slow weakening expected to begin late tonight or on Thursday.

Located around 1,200 miles west-northwest of The Azores, with winds have picked up a little to 45 mph as it moves north-northeast at 9 mph. 

Debby is forecast to dissipate over the far northern Atlantic by Thursday night.

Debby has made the forecast turn toward the north-northeast, and a further turn toward the northeast is expected later today as it moves around the northwestern periphery of a deep-layer ridge and ahead of an approaching mid-level trough.
