ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The CrossBay Ferry is back.

Well, almost.

  • CrossBay Ferry to return in November
  • Ferry will run between Tampa, St. Pete downtowns from November to April
  • CrossBay Ferry

The service is returning in November to shuttle patrons between Tampa and St. Petersburg's downtowns.

The Pinellas County Commission's approval this week was the last hurdle to restart the ferry, which last ran in April 2017.

Each-way fares ran between $8 and $10.

The trial run sold more than 37,000 tickets and had an economic impact of $1.6 million on the region. A public subsidy of $600,000 ($150,000 from each entity) will help fund the return of the ferry.

The ferry held up to 149 people and traveled between the downtowns. Riders boarded the ferry in both locations equally, according to the data from its initial foray.

The ferry typically made three round trips on Saturdays and two round trips on other days. The numbers show the ferry was most popular Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
