More than one million Floridians have already cast their ballots in the upcoming primary. Most of those votes were cast by mail.

In Hillsborough County, 12 percent of the county's electorate voted. That equates to about 106,000 registered voters.

Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer opened 19 polling sites for the upcoming primary, an increase of three from the previous election cycle.

"Right now, we have surpassed the number of early votes and vote by mail than we had in the 2014 election," Latimer said.

Democratic voters in Hillsborough hold a slight edge over Republicans in early primary voting. Statewide, the number of Republican voters are up about five points over Democrats.
