ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Here's your Tampa area weather forecast for late Friday into Saturday morning, along with a look at conditions into next week.

  • Easterly wind
  • Mostly sunny, dry mornings
  • Numerous afternoon and evening storms

Storms and rain will end this evening.  Clouds will then thin out, and lows will be in the mid 70s.

Saturday will start quiet, with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms will build in the afternoon and all move toward our side of the state and toward the Gulf of Mexico by the evening.

As a result, the coverage by the end of the day will be rather high, in the range of 60 to 70 percent. High temperatures will top out in the low 90s before the storms begin.

The storms will slowly die down Saturday evening with lows in the low to mid 70s.

Sunday will be similar, with quiet conditions for the morning followed by an active afternoon to evening of thunderstorms that all will move toward our side of the state and out into the gulf in the evening.

Highs will be in the low to mid 90s before the storms begin.

This pattern of a wind blowing from the east will continue into next week. In this type of pattern we get quiet mornings but active afternoons to evenings, as all the storms end up on our side of the state later in the day.

So although the rain is concentrated in one part of the day, the coverage ultimately ends up being pretty high since the storms concentrate on our side of the state.

Expect that to be the pattern Monday through Thursday. The coverage will vary slightly from day to day, with some days being about 50 percent and others about 40 percent. The pattern will not change much from day to day.

In this type of pattern, the highs usually reach the low to mid 90s, a little bit hotter than our average, because the storms take a few more hours to get started on our side of the state.

The lows at night, however, tend to be a couple degrees lower due to the late day heavy rains, helping to cool us down going into the evenings.
