HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a multiple-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of I-75 after a Hyundai Sonata drove through standing water, spun out, and caused a chain of crashes.

  • Vehicle causes chain of crashes after spinning out
  • Four vehicle, seven people involved in crash
  • No severe injuries reported

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24.

Troopers said the driver of the Hyundai lost control of the vehicle after driving through standing water and hit the concrete barrier wall.

The impact caused the Hyundai to spin out of control, hitting a Cadillac Escalade before hitting the concrete barrier again.

The Hyundai then traveled into the path of a semi-truck, hitting the semi and causing it to jackknife and hit the concrete barrier.

The collision caused part of the semi to enter the northbound lanes of I-75, causing a Toyota Corolla to hit the concrete barrier.

According to the report, a total of seven people were involved in the crash. None of them suffered severe injuries, troopers said.

The driver of the Hyundai did have to be extricated.
