ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Storms will move into the Gulf and end this evening.

  • Afternoon storms Monday

  • Rain continues through the week

Clouds will then thin out. Lows will be in the mid-70s.

Monday will start quiet with sunny to partly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms will begin on the east coast in the afternoon and will move west toward the Gulf by the evening. With slightly drier air overhead, coverage drop to 40 percent.  High temperatures will top out in the low 90s before the storms begin.

The storms will slowly die down and end in the evening with lows overnight in the low to mid 70s.

Tuesday will be similar with a dry morning followed by afternoon to evening of thunderstorms. Storms will move west toward our side of the state and out into the Gulf in the evening. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s before the storms begin.

This pattern of easterly winds will continue into the work week. This means quiet mornings but stormy afternoons to evenings when the storms end up on our side of the state later in the day.

So although the rain is in the second half of the day, the coverage ultimately ends up being pretty high since the storms concentrate on our side of the state.

Expect that to be the pattern through Saturday.

With easterly winds, the highs will reach the low to mid 90s, on the high side of average, since the storms take a few more hours to get started on our side of the state.

The lows at night however tend to be a couple degrees lower due to the late day heavy rains, helping to drop temperatures during the evenings.
