ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Early voting has ended for Tuesday's primary election.

And the numbers have already surpassed 2014 totals.

As of last Wednesday, more than 100,000 ballots had been cast in Hillsborough County:

Those numbers jumped past 115,000 during the weekend.

In 2014, there were 128,000 total votes cast during the entire election. Those numbers were likely passed during the weekend.

"We've got an open governors seat so you've got multiple candidates on both sides," said Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer of the high turnout of voters. "The republican and democratic side, plus there are other candidates that are going to be coming in in the general.

"We've got a lot of local races that have multiple candidates in them too.  this always generates more excitement."

Meanwhile, the state of Florida also saw a huge bump in voting. According to state numbers, 1.6 million people voted early, compared to 1.2 million early ballots cast in 2014.

And on Tuesday, polls will be open throughout the day for residents who still have not voted or have been waiting for Election Day. The polls open at 7 a.m.

Florida voters on Tuesday will select the nominees for governor, agriculture commissioner, attorney general, and several congressional seats.

There are also multiple races for judges, school board and commission seats in counties across the Bay area.
