SPRING HILL, Fla. — Five Hernando County deputies are recovering after a hazmat situation Thursday evening.

  • Deputies recovering after meth smoke made them sick
  • Authorities were serving warrant at home in Spring Hill
  • Hazmat crew called in to clear home

According to the sheriff's office, the deputies became sick after attempting to serve a warrant at 7031 Holiday Drive around 7 p.m.

Officials have determined the substance inhaled was second-hand methamphetamine smoke. Two residents in the home apparently had just been smoking when deputies showed up.

The people in the home, Shane Michael Woodruff and Tiylar Beal, were arrested.

Woodruff, 37, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $8,000.

Tiylar Beal, 21, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Beal was given a no bond status during his first appearance on Friday.

After entering the home, deputies complained of being lightheaded. Fire rescue personnel treated the deputies at the scene. Woodruff and Beal also were exposed and treated.

The person being sought by deputies was not at the home.

The hazmat team cleared out the home.
