WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Two construction workers in Wesley Chapel were injured when wind reportedly blew a wall over and onto them Friday afternoon, according to Pasco Fire Rescue.

  • Accident occurred at Estancia subdivision
  • Neighbors said wall was just put up day before
  • Construction stopped for the night after incident

Fire rescue crews responded to the scene in the 29000 block of Picana Lane around 4:50 p.m.

The wall that fell over on the work site, located in the Estancia subdivision, was just put up the other day, according to neighbors.

"At it was up as high as that corner there by the time the storm came through," said resident Tami Taylor, pointing out the height of the wall before today.

Fire rescue officials said the wind from today's storms blew that new wall over, and the bricks tumbled down on top of the two workers.

"We heard a fire truck, so we want to go see what happened," said neighbor Alisa Samuel. "And we saw there was ambulances and police cars and we saw that the wall had fallen, so we were like, 'Someone must have gotten hurt.'"

The workers apparently had blue tarp over them to protect them from the rain as rescue crews worked to free them from the rubble.

"They were in there a little bit to get them out, so they had to have quite a bit of stuff on them," Taylor said.

The two men were transported to the hospital and are reported to be in fair condition.

Construction on the site was stopped for the evening.
