PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- Sarah Connolly, 11, and a friend were setting up a lemonade stand in front of her home Sunday afternoon.

  • Deputies say 17-year-old fired the shots
  • 17-year-old accused of shooting other people

Sarah's brother, 13-year-old Coltin, came out to help with an umbrella when he saw a car driving down the street and heard several "pops."

"I didn't realized what was happening, so I went to put it (the umbrella) in the ground and I heard another pop," Coltin said. "And then I realized that I got hit in the side."

Coltin was hit by a gas-powered pellet gun Pasco County deputies say was fired by a 17-year-old high school student.

"I got really scared and just wanted to cry," Sarah said.

The children's mother, Tammy Connolly, is furious.

"How is that funny? she asked. "How is that fun? How do you get enjoyment out of that? Only sick people will enjoy that."

The 17-year-old was arrested Sunday and charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said the teen shot two other people in separate incidents.

The Connollys hopes the teen’s charges send a message that playing with any type of gun is no joke.

"I think it's really wrong because they're putting people's lives in danger and they could've hurt somebody," Sarah said.

"I hope they stop and think of the consequences, they could've killed somebody," Tammy Connolly said.
