ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tropical Storm Gordon is getting stronger as it is near the SW Coast of Florida just south of Naples in the Gulf of Mexico.

It is moving west-northwest at a rapid 17 mph.  As Gordon enters the Gulf it could strengthen to a hurricane, but it is moving away from the Florida Peninsula toward the mid-Gulf Coast region of Mississippi/Alabama/Western Florida Panhandle where a Hurricane Watch has been issued.

Gordon is moving fast so it won’t linger long before a landfall on Tuesday.  Wind gusts to 56 mph have been reported in the Florida Keys this afternoon.

As Gordon moves away from our area, we will still have tropical moisture over our area on Monday so expect a good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the humid air.

Some drier air will come in Wednesday lowering our rain chances for one day before we get back into a summer time pattern for the rest of the week and next weekend.
