HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. -- A police officer is seeking the public's help in an ongoing manhunt.

However, he's not looking for a dangerous criminal. Instead, he's seeking to thank a good Samaritan who paid for his items at a local Walmart.

According to the officer, he was trying to purchase a salad and soft drink on Tuesday when he was called away to help someone locate their missing sister in the store.

At that time, a kind citizen offered to hold his items while he assisted in the call. Once the officer returned, he discovered that his items had already been paid for.

In a post on social media, the officer expressed his thanks to the kind stranger by saying “I wish to express my humble appreciation and gratitude for your kind gesture and compassion. It is a privilege to work for the Town of Hillsborough and the PD, and to serve the citizens here. You may not feel that your gesture was that big of a deal, but to me, and all the other officers that have experienced similar interactions with citizens, it was and is. We appreciate your support! Sincerely, thank you, and God bless!”
