ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Expect partly cloudy skies overnight, with lows in the low to mid 70s.

  • Storms moves west
  • Winds shift Sunday
  • Active in tropics

The east wind flow pattern we have seen will start to break down Saturday.

We will actually get a weak sea breeze to move in from the gulf. That will trigger scattered storms a little earlier.

The rain coverage will ultimately still end up being about 60 percent, but the storms will not move as quickly westward into the gulf, even though they will tend to have a slow west-northwest drift to them

Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90 for Saturday — not as hot as its been recently due to the slight sea breeze and the earlier start to the storms.

Storms will die down Saturday night, with partly cloudy skies and lows in the low to mid 70s.

Sunday will be the first day in a long time that our wind pattern changes.

There will be a slight breeze from the southwest. That means our sea breeze will come in quicker, leading to an earlier start to storms in coastal areas, but they will then move more quickly inland and ultimately end up inland and drifting eastward later in the day.

Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90.

The general trend for next week is to have a stronger sea breeze each day. Therefore, storms will start in coastal regions, but they will tend to drift inland and eastward each day, which is the opposite of the pattern we have seen the past couple weeks.

In that pattern our highs tend to be near 90 each day, with storms winding down a little quicker each afternoon.

However, our wind pattern could change again depending on the path of Florence. Although it looks unlikely Florence will come near our region, its wind pattern could affect ours, which could then change our thunderstorm pattern and possibly even bring us drier air. That will be something we are watching.
