According to police, the motorcycle traffic officer stopped a westbound car on Gandy Blvd near 4th Street just after 8 a.m.

As he was standing at the driver's side window handing over the citation, a Camry slowed down to pass them but a commercial box truck was unable to slowdown and crashed into the Camry.

The impact pushed the Camry forward and clipped the officer.

The officer suffered a minor injury that didn't require hospitalization.

The driver of the Camry was transported to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries.

Police said the incident highlights the importance of slowing down and moving over when drivers see law enforcement or emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
