PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- Pasco County Schools are following the NFL's lead when it comes to school events. Students are no longer allowed to bring bags into any school event unless it's a clear, plastic bag.

  • Pasco County bans bags at events
  • Only clear, plastic bags allowed
  • Change comes after 2 school shootings

After shots were fired at two football games in Jacksonville and in Palm Beach this year, local school districts decided to make some changes, including the Pasco County School District.

School leaders decided to do something that's become very common at concerts or pro football games -- ban bags. Only clear, plastic bags are allowed into Pasco football games now, which started last week.

"It was a little shaky in a couple places, but overall I think people really are used to having restrictions on what they can bring into events," Linda Cobb said.

As Pasco County Schools are now getting the word out about not allowing bags, they are working on signs like this which will soon be posted at schools for any sort of after school event.

The ban includes all bags, including small ones like purses, or anything that a weapon cold be concealed in.

Some booster clubs and other school groups are selling some of the plastic bags as a fundraiser.
