In east Hillsborough County, a group of parents are coming together to add another layer of security for their children.

The group of Newsome High School parents are helping schools get what they need to improve safety through fundraisers.

This week, the parents kicked off their "Start With Hello" program, aimed at getting kids to reach out to each other. And that is just one was the group of moms are helping.

The group of mothers started the Coalition for School Safety at the Parkland shooting earlier this year.

It is a non-profit organization that raises funds to purchase safety equipment and heighten security measures in Hillsborough County schools.

The group started with projects at Newsome and other schools have been reaching out to the group.

"It bothers us to know that things have been undone and left sitting for too long," said Jessica Koffman with the Coalition for School Safety. "But there comes a point when we all as parents have to stop talking and start doing.

"And we believe every single mom, every single dad, every person in the community has something they can contribute and we are a community and the only way this is going to get better is if everyone contributes a little something."

The group works solely off of donations.

They're currently working on raising money to purchase window coverings for Newsome.
