ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The east wind again pushed the storms westward toward the Gulf of Mexico this evening.

  • Hot weather continues into October
  • Dry mornings and middays
  • A few late afternoon/evening thunderstorms

Skies will clear overnight with a mainly clear sky by Wednesday morning. Lows will be in the low to mid 70s inland and upper 70s near the coast.

Wednesday will start with sunny skies. Temperatures will climb quickly into the low to mid 90s for afternoons highs.

Although there will again be a breeze from the east, we’ll have a stronger sea breeze from the gulf in the afternoon that will push inland, resulting in a slower pace to the storms Wednesday late afternoon to evening. Once they get going, they will tend to drift west toward the gulf, but it could take a little longer for that to happen.

Either way, the storms will die down in the evening or just move out of the area with clearing skies overnight. The coverage of storms will be at 30 percent.

Lows will be in the low to mid 70s.

Thursday will feature a very similar forecast, with a 30 percent coverage of late afternoon to evening storms. Highs will be in the low 90s.

Beyond that we’ll see drier air move into our upper atmosphere. As a result, although it will still feel like summer here on the ground, the atmosphere will not produce as many storms from Friday into the upcoming weekend.
