As people all over Central Florida were counting down to the new year, one woman was in labor.

  • New Year's Day babies
  • Ava Mann was born at 12:02 a.m. at Florida Hospital for Women
  • Winnie Palmer Hospital welcomed a baby at 1:34 a.m.

Florida Hospital for Women welcomed the first baby of 2018 in Orlando just after midnight.

Ava McKenzie Mann was born at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018, hospital staff said. She weighed 7 pounds and 9 ounces.

Her mother, Jasmin Fair, had been in labor for nearly 11 hours.

Fair said that she always knew her baby girl would be a star, and so far Ava is proving her mom right.

"She's probably like the best baby that Orlando will have in their hospital," Fair said.

While the excitement and attention of having the first New Year’s Baby in Orlando is nice, Fair said she’s just happy to finally have her baby girl in her arms.

"I'm like in love with something that just came into the world and I made her," Fair said. "Me and her dad, but I did all the work."

Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women also welcomed their first baby of 2018 overnight.

Baby girl Bri was born at 1:34 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018.
