An world-renown artist will be creating artwork for the new St. Petersburg Pier and surrounding area. 

Artist Janet Echelman will be paid $3 million to design the artwork, according to the Tampa Bay Times

As pictured in renderings, the colorful, almost glow-like structures appear to "float" in the air. 

The city has set aside about $1 million for the artwork. 

Private donations and the public arts commission also have pitched in funds, leaving the city with about $600,000 to raise.
