Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast, with a little help from friends, handed over a hefty check to the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranch last week.

The $23,000 raised at the Caruth Camp Golf Challenge is the largest donation tournament organizers have ever raised in the 27 years of putting the event on.

Funds raised this year by participants will send 350 Citrus County students to Harmony in the Streets, a summer camp led by CCSO and Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches employees.

The camps feature fun and adventure for the children, as well as lessons on leadership, self-esteem, team building and creating positive relationships with each other and law enforcement officers.

"We are profoundly grateful to all the generous sponsors, golfers, volunteers and employees that spent countless hours contributing to this wonderful event," Prendergast said. "We are investing in the lives if our youth who will eventually become our future leaders."
