Longboat Key Police are still investigating the death of a 54-year-old Sarasota woman who was found dead in the Longboat Key Moorings clubhouse last week.

Police say they have ruled out natural causes and an accidental death.

"We're investigating this as if it were the worst case scenario--as a homicide," said Longboat Key Police Chief Pete Cummings.

Cummings said the victim's body was found inside a sauna at the resort. He would not describe the scene but said it was enough to raise questions.

"There are things about it that point to homicide, and others that could be explained, and again that's the forensic medical examiners job," said Chief Cummings.

The medical examiner could not rule the death a homicide or suicide, so now police are waiting on lab results for cause of death.

Longboat Key police have called in the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office to help investigate.

"If this does turn out to be a homicide, it looks to be within an inner circle," Cummings said.

Cummings expects to have the lab results by early next week. Police will not release the name of the victim until then.
