TAMPA, Fla. — The deadline for Hillsborough County voters to register to participate in the general election is quickly approaching.

Hillsborough County has more than 852,000 registered voters -- more than ever before -- but those who aren't registered only have days before the deadline. Online voter registration applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9 to be valid for the General Election.

"The deadline to register to vote, if you're not already registered, is October 9," said Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer.  "And I encourage anyone who needs to register to vote to visit VoteHillsborough.org and register online -- it's quick and easy."

Citizens can also pick up and submit printed voter registration applications at any of the four Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections offices, as well as driver license offices, public libraries, state public assistance agencies and tax collector's offices. Printed applications must be postmarked or received by close of business on Tuesday, October 9 for the upcoming election.

The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will have extended hours on Tuesday, October 9, with all four of its offices open until 7 p.m.

The elections office stays busy throughout the year registering new citizens at naturalization ceremonies, visiting high schools and colleges, and hosting voter outreach tables at community events. In the days leading up to the registration deadline, outreach staff will be at the following locations:

  • Saturday, 9 AM: Greater Bethel M.B. Church
  • Saturday, 10 AM: Yes! Fair at All People's Life Center
  • Sunday, 11:30 AM: First Baptist Church of West Tampa
