TAMPA, Florida — The City of Tampa plans to activate three crosswalks installed along Bayshore Boulevard sometime next week, according to a city official.

The new additions come in the wake of a deadly crash in May that killed Jessica Raubenolt, 24 and her 21-month old daughter.

Police say Cameron Herrin, 18, and John Alexander Barrineau, 17, were racing on Bayshore Boulevard at the time of the crash.  Both teens have been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and street racing.

The city lowered the speed limit along the boulevard from 45 miles per hour to 35 after the fatalities and announced plans to install three enhanced crosswalks.  These plans were already in the works before the crash.

"We were able to expedite particularly the speed limit reduction, the markings and the signage," said Jean Duncan, director of Transportation Services for the City of Tampa. "This is another step towards more pedestrian safety for Bayshore Boulevard."

Those three crosswalks will be activated October 24. An additional four are scheduled to be installed and activated by the end of the year.
