TAMPA, Florida — Parts of the Selmon Expressway were closed for several hours Sunday morning after a fatal, wrong-way crash.

It happened about 2:30 a.m. just east of the Platt Street exit ramp.

Tampa Police said a pickup truck got on the entrance ramp near Hyde Park and was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes.

That driver crashed into another pickup truck, killing its driver. The driver was identified as Bamnet Narongchai, 68.

Police Stephen Joseph Paleveda, 27, left the scene but is now in custody. Charges are pending.

Narongchai was killed driving home from work. He volunteered on Sunday mornings at the Wat Thai Temple on Palm River Road in Tampa. Narongchai had been serving meals there for 37 years.

"When somebody told me today, I was like, 'no you're lying," said Narongchai's close friend On Winkler. "You must have the wrong name."
