ORLANDO, Fla. — A water main break has caused flooding in downtown Orlando.

  • Water main breaks in downtown Orlando neighborhood
  • OUC to help impacted residents in area
  • Summerlin Avenue closed indefinitely

Flooding was reported on Summerlin Avenue near East Concord Street.

Orlando Utilities Commission says a 20-inch pipe burst, causing a huge hole in the road. Thirteen homes in this area are impacted by the break.

“The pipe is 80 years old, so it’s an older pipe. For us its a duticle iron pipe,” said Tim Trudell, an OUC spokesperson.

Orlando Utilities Comission said they're hopeful they'll repair the pipe by early Tuesday.

Monday night, Commissioner Patty Sheehan in a Facebook post said that it will take a few days for the road itself to be repaired.

OUC officials are assisting impacted residents.

"(It's) chaotic, stressful because I am not going to have water," said resident Richard Amidon

Sheehan also encouraged residents in the area to try and conserve water, and if you live in the area and are experiencing low water pressure, to not drink the water.

Once the water is fixed, OUC will be issuing precautionary boil water advisory to the 13 customers affected.

Summerlin Avenue is shut down indefinitely between Concord and Amelia streets. Sheehan encouraged residents to take alternative routes.
