RIVERVIEW, Fla. — This week's Everyday Hero turned his passion into a career.

Connor Blackmon is dedicated to helping the men and women in uniform keep us safe.

In a small fitness studio in Riverview, Saturday is Boot Camp Day.

You might call Blackmon, the owner and a personal fitness instructor, the drill sergeant.

"So boot camp today is more of a general term for sports fitness we are offering," he said. "A free group fitness class on Saturday mornings to veterans, active duty, first-responders, cops, paramedics, firefighters."

The 23-year-old said he is honored to work with veterans as well as police and other first-responders for what they give of themselves to the community and to the country.

"I felt humbled and I wanted to give back," Blackmon said. "Fitness is my gift. Fitness is a way I can somehow return to the people who have served, are serving or want to serve."

Born in Alabama, he has been a personal fitness instructor here for about two and a half years. The studio, called Heroes Fitness, has been open for about seven months.

He said the free Boot Camp Saturdays are here to stay.

"I just want to say thank you to all the veterans who are watching right now, and first-responders and teachers," Blackmon said.
