DADE CITY —  While there’s a lot of focus on recounts taking too long in Florida, many places are doing it the right way.

Pasco County was among the first to get their votes counted and published on election night. It was also the first county to get the recount done this past weekend.

Pasco County Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley is the first to credit his team on a job well done.

“It's about having the plans in place, the work ethic and it all comes together,” Corley said. “We have folks in this office that live, eat and breathe this stuff.

Corley said he felt almost like a football coach in a locker room, giving his team a pep talk on Sunday when the recount started. Now, they’re putting plans together for a manual recount if it comes to that.

“We do a lot of logistics and planning. We did not anticipate three historic, state wide recounts, but we were able to pivot and come up with a game plan,” Corley said.

During the recount, Corley says they had several observers who saw both efficiency and transparency in getting the job done.

“That made me the most proud,” Corley said. “Our job is to be nonpartisan. We got accolades from the left, right and center.”

He says he never compares his office to others around the state but his goal is to continue to give voters faith in the system that their voice matters.

If a manual recount is called, Corley's plan is to have two counting teams ready to go, led by staff members from both political parties.
