ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon after colliding with an SUV in a St. Petersburg intersection, according to St. Petersburg Police.

Officials said the crash occurred around 2:15 p.m. in the intersection of 31st Street and 3rd Avenue North. The motorcyclist, identified as 44-year-old Christopher Sierra, was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

He died at a local hospital.

The driver of the SUV that collided with the motorcycle remained at the scene after the crash, according to police. She was transported to a local hospital for a medical check and is cooperating with investigators.

Police said the SUV driver attempted to make a left-hand turn onto 3rd Avenue North and turned into Sierra, who swerved to avoid a collision. Sierra was thrown from his motorcycle.

Lanes were closed during the investigation.
