TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa Bay homeowner avoided serious injuries after an SUV slammed into his house early Friday morning.

Edgar Sanchez was inside the kitchen inside his house on North Highland Avenue near Violet Street when a driver reportedly crashed through the living room.

“I just heard the car screeching in, I heard a big bang and once I heard the glass, I knew there was probably serious damage done to the house,” Sanchez said.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was not seriously injured, but witnesses say a passenger was taken to the hospital. That person’s condition is not known.

Officials haven’t said what caused the driver to crash into the home.
