NATIONWIDE -- The Shining, My Fair Lady and Jurassic Park were among the 25 films chosen to be added to the National Film Registry, the Library of Congress announced Wednesday.

The selected films will be preserved for their "cultural, historic and aesthetic importance" to the nation's film heritage.

"The National Film Registry turns 30 this year and for those three decades, we have been recognizing, celebrating and preserving this distictive medium," Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement. "These cinematic treasures must be protected because they document our history, culture, hopes and dreams."

Other 2018 additions include Buster Keaton's The Navigator, Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, John Ford's The Informer and Orson Welles' The Lady from Shanghai. The list also includes more contemporary films like Broadcast News, Eve's Bayou, Smoke Signals and Brokeback Mountain.

Disney's animated film Cinderella also made the list.

The 2018 selections bring the number of films in the registry to 750.

A few of the films from the National Film Registry are available for viewing online at the National Screening Room
