ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A developing storm system will cross the Southeastern U.S. on Thursday and Friday, bringing wet and windy weather that could impact travelers.

There is very little cold air at the surface ,so most of the precipitation falling will be rain and some of it could be heavy.  Major airports like Atlanta could see delays with the strong winds.  Air travelers might experience a bumpy ride in the Eastern half of the country due to very strong winds aloft.

The good news is as the system exits it will bring a long stretch of fairly tranquil weather for the Lower 48 that could last through Christmas Day. Snow lovers will not be happy though — rain in the east will melt much of the snow that fell earlier this month.

In the West, snow will begin this weekend and heavy snow is likely in the high elevations of the Pacific Northwest through the holiday.

For travelers in and around Florida, expect nice weather from Sunday into Christmas Day with a slow warming trend into next week.
