An assistant principal in Pasco County has been arrested on federal charges.

  • Pasco assistant principal arrested after Homeland Security investigation
  • Kyle Ritsema arrested Tuesday
  • Information on investigation, charges not released yet

Homeland Security officials took 35-year-old Kyle Ritsema into custody on Tuesday at his Land O' Lakes home. The arrest came after a Homeland Security investigation.

Ritsema is an assistant principal at Cypress Creek Middle High School in Wesley Chapel.

According to Ritsema's Facebook page, the Michigan native's recent travels have included Peru and Paris.

It's not clear if his arrest by ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) is somehow related to his travels. Right now federal officials are only saying that his arrest is for a federal rules violation.

Ritsema is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail.

The charges against Ritsema have not been released.

The Pasco school district says this arrest has absolutely nothing to do with his work at the school.

He has a clean background and work history.

In fact, the district spokesperson described him as a "rising star."
