The city of Lakeland is getting a new dog park.

  • New dog park being built in Lakeland
  • Park will be 3 acres and include washing station
  • It's set to open in March

The park is under construction at the southern end of the city’s Cleveland Heights Golf Course.

“That’s great! I don’t have to drive so far for him to play,” said Sarah Harris of Lakeland.

The park, to be called Dog Leg Woods, will be around three acres and include separate areas for large and small dogs. It’ll also have a washing station.

“When we do our park master planning, the number one thing people want are dog parks," said Kevin Cook, head of Lakeland's communication department. "So we’ve listened and we’ve got one on the north end. This is our second one on the south end.”

The park cost about $130,000 to construct, according to Cook.  It will open in March.
