Law enforcement officials are looking at new video showing a person wanted for setting two fires at churches in Seminole.

  • Fires happened last weekend in Seminole
  • Authorities say firebombs thrown into churches
  • Anyone with information asked to call Sheriff's Office

The fires happened between 8 p.m. Feb. 3 and 8 a.m. Feb. 4 at Seminole United Methodist Church and Universal Harmony Church. Both churches are located on Seminole Boulevard.

Surveillance video of the person was captured by cameras at Seminole Boulevard and 59th Avenue North just before midnight last Saturday.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the culprit, believed to be 20-30 years old, has a slim build and short hair.

Detectives say the man in the video – the second obtained by authorities -- threw what amounted to fire bombs into the two churches.

No one was injured, and the damage at both churches was consider minor by investigators.

However the pastor at Universal Harmony Church said the damage was extensive enough that it had to cancel services Sunday morning.

"There's something wrong with them," the Rev. Nancy Castillo said of the person behind the fires. "And I feel for them. I pray that they get caught so maybe they can get some help."

Investigators say it isn’t known why the arsonist appears to be targeting churches.
