Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a house fire Thursday morning that left one person dead.

According to officials, the fire broke out just before 7:30 a.m. at 3405 East Fern Street just east of the Old Seminole Heights neighborhood.

The victim has been identified as Valerie Fleming, 57. She died at the scene.

Authorities said four police officers on patrol nearby responded first to the fire and went in to the home in a rescue attempt. Three of those officers suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Tampa General Hospital.

They have since been released.

Officials said Fleming was found near the doorway of the home.

The fire is under investigation to determine its cause, although fire officials said they do not believe it is suspicious.
