Deputies said on Dec. 29, 2017 at 1:30 a.m., Anton Dawkins, 24, was on a bicycle and rode by the victim’s New Port Richey home, claiming he was looking for his Chihuahua. The victim told deputies Dawkins rode away and she went into her backyard to retrieve an item.

When the victim walked back to her driveway, Dawkins was crouched near the driver’s side of her vehicle. He quickly approached her, grabbed her arm and pointed a gun at her from his pants pocket, according to the report.

The victim told deputies Dawkins said, “I don’t want to have to shoot you.”

Deputies said Dawkins demanded access to the vehicle, located her purse and looked through her wallet for cash. The victim told Dawkins she didn’t have any cash and he walked away, according to the report.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office connected Dawkins to that alleged armed robbery after he was arrested on Feb. 20, for sexual battery and armed burglary of a dwelling in the same neighborhood. Dawkins matched the description of the suspect.

In that incident, deputies said on Feb. 19 at 8:17 a.m. Dawkins entered a home and raped a 71-year-old woman who showed up to take care of the pets while the homeowner was away. The victim was able to identify Dawkins by his tattoos, and deputies found his fingerprints on a Gatorade bottle he left at the scene, according to the arrest report.

Brittney Sanabria, 27, lives across the street from where the alleged rape took place. She said she’s glad Dawkins is locked up.

“It’s really too close for comfort, I guess you could say. I’m glad he’s off the streets,” she said. “If you can hurt a 71-year-old woman, you can hurt anybody.”

Dawkins is being held in a Pasco Jail on a combined bond of $350,000.
