HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY — Two people were killed in a hit and run Saturday night on US 301 and Johanna Avenue in Hillsborough County.

A 34-year-old man was arrested in the double fatal crash. 

Troopers said Ben Johnston was driving a Lexus southbound on US 301 when he turned left onto Johanna Avenue and traveled into the path of motorcycle traveling northbound on US 301. 

The front of motorcycle crashed into the right side of Lexus, causing both occupants of the motorcycle to be ejected onto the roadway. 

The driver of the motorcycle, Kerry Webb, 37, was pronounced dead on scene. The passenger of the bike, a 25-year-old female, was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital where she later died from her injuries. 

After the crash, troopers said Johnston fled the scene on foot to his home on Lake St. Charles Boulevard in Riverview where he was taken into custody by Hillsborough County deputies and troopers. 

Johnston was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, DUI manslaughter, and a felony DUI -- his 4th conviction. 

The crash occurred around 9:35 p.m. Saturday and caused the roads to close until 4:30 a.m.
