Clearwater police couldn't have said it better: "Sometimes this job just quacks us up."

  • Officers descended through manholes
  • Ducks will be picked up by wildlife volunteers

Officers responded Monday afternoon to an animal call in the 1200 block of South Highland Avenue.

They were told that a number of baby ducks were trapped in a storm drain.

Sgt. Kevin Boyle and Officer Stephanie Emrich descended through two different manholes to corral the wayward critters.

The babies were put in a cardboard box and taken inside the local business until wildlife volunteers could come pick them up.

"These officers went above and beyond this afternoon to pluck baby ducks from their precarious perch in a storm drain," the Police Department said on Twitter.

The baby ducks were to be picked up by wildlife volunteers.
