LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — One person was killed late Tuesday in what the Pasco County Sheriff's Office is calling a road rage incident.

  • 1 man dead in Land O' Lakes road rage incident
  • Gunshots from one car struck man, 38, in car next to him
  • Shooting remains under investigation, no charges filed as of yet

According to officials, some type of altercation happened at 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Collier Parkway and State Road 54 and continued to the intersection of US 41 and State Road 54.

Deputies said as two vehicles were traveling west on SR 54 near US 41, at least one shot was fired from one vehicle to the other. Scott Ryan Bartolotti, 38, was killed in the shooting.

An investigation is still ongoing.

Deputies are trying to determine what initially started the altercation. Deputies said they don't believe the two men knew each other.

Wayne Scott, co-owner of nearby store "What's in Your Tank," told us he found the occurence of such an incident so close by "devastating." He also expressed relief that no one else was hurt with it occuring in such a busy intersection.

"It’s pretty crazy, especially between 3:00 and 7:00," he said. "It’s just pretty much everyone getting off work or trying to get into this plaza or get on the opposite side of the road.”

Authorities said the driver who fired the shot is cooperating with investigators, but he has not been charged with anything at this time.

Officials said the shooting happened in an extremely busy area and it was fortunate that no one else was hurt.

“That’s putting everyone else’s lives in danger," Scott added. "As we grew up, you know, being in the Army, we always know that they say, ‘A bullet has no name on it.’ So, that could’ve been anybody, innocent or guilty.”

Deputies are asking if anyone has any information regarding this incident or saw anything around 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of US 41 and State Road 54, please contact the Pasco Sheriff's Office at (727) 847-8102.
